Industrial Asset Management Made Simple

Our Inspectors are certified ASNT-SNT-TC-1A Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) technicians. Our NDT methods yield in-depth quantitative results, allowing us to calculate corrosion rates and find areas of excessive deterioration. We can then recommend the preventative maintenance needed to mitigate the probability of a hazardous discharge into the environment and avoid more costly repairs later on.

We perform both fixed interval inspections and risk-based inspections to provide insight into the structural integrity of your assets when it is most needed. Our expert API 653, API 510, STI SP0001, and API 570 inspections will uncover exactly how well your tank is holding up, to both outside elements and the product it contains.

OUR NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING SERVICES INCLUDE:

  • Above Ground Tank Inspection
  • Visual Inspections
  • Ultrasonic Testing
  • Magnetic Particle Testing / Magnaflux Inspection
  • Penetrant Dye Testing
  • Vacuum Box Testing
  • Radiographic Testing
  • Ultrasonic Thickness Testing
  • Tank Tightness Testing

Why the Keystone State is Choosing NDT Tanknicians

Pennsylvania is known worldwide for its steel industry, but many of its cities serve as diverse urban manufacturing centers, including Pittsburgh, Erie, Philadelphia, and the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton metropolitan area in the Lehigh Valley, located in the prosperous Northeast Corridor. In 2021, Pennsylvania ranked #6 in the country in terms of gross state product, with a total of $839.4 billion. The Pennsylvania Department of Health reports that there are approximately 350,000 conventional oil and natural gas wells and 13,000 unconventional natural gas wells drilled in the state. Pennsylvania’s proximity to the Boston–Washington corridor and its numerous high-volume airports, including the Philadelphia International Airport, Pittsburgh International Airport, and Lehigh Valley International Airport, allow the region’s refineries and manufacturers to conveniently access national and international markets.

Pennsylvania is home to a number of petroleum companies, including Chevron, Chesapeake Appalachia, Cabot Oil & Gas Corp, Pennsylvania Asphalt, Petroleum Service Company, and Anadarko Petroleum. The state’s humid summers can increase the chance of humidity-related corrosion of their storage tanks and pressure vessels. We offer our Pennsylvanian customers expert interior and exterior anti-corrosive coating and lining systems to reduce their risk of climate-related degradation and extend the life of their assets.

In 1988, a faulty storage tank located in Jefferson Hills split apart and spilled nearly 1 million gallons of oil into a storm sewer leading to the Monongahela River. The results were devastating and included the contamination of drinking water for 1 million people, the evacuation of 1200 people, and damages of up to $15 million. This incident, along with the more recent 2022 oil spill along the Allegheny River, emphasizes the environmental, financial, and social costs of contamination-related accidents. Through our expert inspection and repair services, you can minimize the possibility of leaks, protecting not only the environment but also the reputation and bottom line of your business.

PENNSYLVANIA STORAGE TANK GOVERNANCE

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection oversees the state’s Storage Tank Program, which was put into place in 1989 through the Storage Tank and Spill Prevention Act. Per the Department of Environmental Protection website:
Specific program responsibilities include the following: tank registration and payment of an annual registration fee, certification of tank handling and inspection individuals and companies, permitting of tanks, establishment of technical and operational standards for aboveground storage tank systems, and procedures for reporting of releases and corrective action by tank owners.

It also oversees the Storage Tank Cleanup Program, which is responsible for:
developing and maintaining regulations, policies, technical guidance, and public outreach programs necessary to remediate releases from storage tanks in accordance with the Clean Streams Law, Storage Tank and Spill Prevention Act and the Land Recycling and Environmental Remediation Standards Act (Act 2).
